• Temple Public Schools began instruction on June 13, 1883.
• TISD is a 5A school district with two early childhood centers (Pre-K), nine elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8) one high school (9-12) and an alternative education campus.
• TISD serves a very diverse student body of approximately 8,400 students.
• TISD is the fourth largest employer in Temple with approximately 1,300 employees.
• Through the years, TISD has produced 187 National Merit Scholar Award winners, including Black Achievement and Hispanic Recognition Scholars.
• TISD was the first District in Central Texas to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma and has, to date, awarded 100 IB diplomas.
• The District has exceeded state and national averages in SAT scores for 12 consecutive years and has received numerous other state and national recognition.
• Temple High School has been recognized as one of "America's Top Public High Schools" by Newsweek.
• Temple ISD was named an "Overacheiving District" in the Diplomas Count study, as a district that exceeded anticipated growth in graduation rates. 
• Bonham Middle School and Western Hills Elementary School have been recognized as a "Best Public School" by Texas Monthly.

Our Schools

The District's boundaries cover approximately 200 square miles in Bell County. Students attend eight elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, and one alternative high school. Read more about our schools.

Our Ratings

For 2009, Belton ISD was rated Academically Acceptable by the Texas Education Agency based on  students' performance on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills. Four elementary campuses received an Exemplary rating; four received a Recognized rating; Belton High School a Recognized rating; and the remainder of our campuses were rated Academically Acceptable.
